First There Is The Price

Your first and most apparent difference is the price for each of these great eReaders. The price is for some people the first and foremost gauge of which to choose when in this case the choice should not be that clearly cut. Despite the yawning gap of price difference there is an enormous difference in what is delivered in the way of performance and features. The screens on both of these eReaders are similar but not the same. The screen on an eReader is something that the reader looks at every time they use the device. It is the most fundamental part of the ebook reader and is the whole purpose for the existence of the device.

The screen on the Voyage is a  smaller screen and it uses the older technology E-Ink Pearl screen with 50% less contrast. Both of these screens use different lighting technology. The Voyage uses a back lighting and front lighting method that was economically a more viable way to light an LED screen in the past. The Voyage used automatic sensing to adjust the light level to a fixed value above the background or environmental level. This was done to achieve a comfortable light level that was able to save battery power and provide a reasonable reading light contrast.

The Oasis has moved on from that tech and uses a front lighting method only  that is viable due to the more efficient LED lighting that is now available. Front lighting the screen with a much greater number of LEDs results in a greater contrast between black and white to the reader. This produces a more paper like impression when reading.

The improvements to the screen contrast work better throughout a much greater range of environmental lighting. The Oasis uses other tricks to save power. Due to higher efficiencies of the LEDs and screen the Oasis can provide better contrast and greatly improved energy efficiency. The backlighting adjustment for the Oasis is a manual adjustment. This allows the reader to set the screen lighting  for personal taste and maximum comfort.

The Oasis also has a glass rather than plastic screen face and this allows for the glass to be etched. The etching process is part of the antiglare technology that also improves the readability in all lighting environments

The screen on the Oasis is larger that that of the Voyage by and additional inch. This gives more reading space without any penalties for the same resolution and pixel density. Both of these Kindles  have the same screen resolution and pixel density.

The Voyage is constructed from plastic and therefore needs to be built with a more robust thicker case to prevent breaking and damage in case of dropping or any of the other possible incidents that can occur with such devices.

The Oasis on the other hand is constructed from an integrated metal frame that allows the case to be lighter and thinner while maintaining the structural integrity that will prevent damage from occurring to your reader. With the leather cover in place the Oasis is nearly impossible to damage.

Take the hype away and you should realise that although it is hype there is still a significant difference. The Oasis has the advantage of having smarter software that looks after the user needs and yet manages to claw back every scrap of energy to be used when it’s needed.

There are also the modifications to the screen and changes in backlighting LEDs. Better use of the energy used to run Wi-Fi for connection to the internet. Today I want to look at the new Kindle Oasis to check out both the good and bad points of this latest offering by Amazon from the Kindle Range of eReaders.

I have pointed out above the major features that are being presented by Amazon as the best features of this new eReader that has recently been released by one of the big hitters in the electronics retailing industry Amazon.

Amazon have been into the eReader market for over 12 years now and have a strong reputation for delivering some great products. By the same token they have managed to drop a couple of clangers on the way as well.

However overall the kindle machines have been well designed and well accepted by eReader buyers in over 100 countries on the planet. The product is generally well built and reliable and Amazon have essentially used this well known and liked product to launch the vast library of books that they currently have and are continuing to expand in their EBook store.

This also helps to support a large variety of authors who are moving from the established  means of publishing to the new age electronic publishing systems that are both fast to implement and can be even more profitable that the old way of doing business. This new system can also mean that authors who for whatever reason were having difficulties in becoming published now have opportunities that 10 years ago would have been unthinkable. Still the ability to publish doesn’t make the E-reader device an attractive feature on it’s own.

The quality of the manufacturer or supplier can be a significant factor in deciding whether the device is a good product or not. Amazon has a very solid reputation for delivering quality products that meet customer needs.
