First There Is The Price
Your first and most apparent difference is the price for each of these great eReaders. The price is for some people the first and foremost gauge of which to choose when in this case the choice should not be that clearly cut. Despite the yawning gap of price difference there is an enormous difference in what is delivered in the way of performance and features. The price is not even really a measure of the difference in the quality of each of these devices. The price is actually a reflection of the features, comfort and ease of use. I’d call it a measure of the real benefits for the user.
Now some users are happy to pay for the benefits bestowed upon them by a product but there will always be some that prefer the benefit without the cost to gain it. There are the people that will always want something for nothing. Sometimes they will get it too – mostly not. If you are looking for the Kindle Oasis best buy
Then We See The Screen
The screens on both of these eReaders are similar but not the same. The screen on an eReader is something that the reader looks at every time they use the device. It is the most fundamental part of the ebook reader and is the whole purpose for the existence of the device.
The screen on the Voyage is a smaller screen and it uses the older technology E-Ink Pearl screen with 50% less contrast. The new E-Ink Carta screen that is supplied with all Kindle Oasis is noticeably improved over the older technology and does give an improvement that helps to make it easier to read and more comfortable when looking at it for long periods of time.

Both of these screens use different lighting technology. The Voyage uses a back lighting and front lighting method that was economically a more viable way to light an LED screen in the past. The Voyage used automatic sensing to adjust the light level to a fixed value above the background or environmental level. This was done to achieve a comfortable light level that was able to save battery power and provide a reasonable reading light contrast.
The Oasis has moved on from that tech and uses a front lighting method only that is viable due to the more efficient LED lighting that is now available. Front lighting the screen with a much greater number of LEDs results in a greater contrast between black and white to the reader. This produces a more paper like impression when reading.
The improvements to the screen contrast work better throughout a much greater range of environmental lighting. The Oasis uses other tricks to save power. Due to higher efficiencies of the LEDs and screen the Oasis can provide better contrast and greatly improved energy efficiency. The backlighting adjustment for the Oasis is a manual adjustment. This allows the reader to set the screen lighting for personal taste and maximum comfort.
The Oasis also has a glass rather than plastic screen face and this allows for the glass to be etched. The etching process is part of the antiglare technology that also improves the readability in all lighting environments
The screen on the Oasis is larger that that of the Voyage by and additional inch. This gives more reading space without any penalties for the same resolution and pixel density. Both of these Kindles have the same screen resolution and pixel density.
Construction And Engineering.
The Voyage is constructed from plastic and therefore needs to be built with a more robust thicker case to prevent breaking and damage in case of dropping or any of the other possible incidents that can occur with such devices.
The Oasis on the other hand is constructed from an integrated metal frame that allows the case to be lighter and thinner while maintaining the structural integrity that will prevent damage from occurring to your reader. With the leather cover in place the Oasis is nearly impossible to damage.
This brings me to another important feature the weight. The weight of the eReader can have a significant impact on the comfort and concentration of the person reading. If you have ever held up a book while reading you know how tiring it can get and how difficult it makes to continue to get pleasure from the read. The Kindle Oasis weight advantage is a considerable amount when you have used both for some time.
Ebooks are just the same and small differences in weight can be significant over long periods of time reading. The difference between the Voyage and Oasis is nearly double. This is significant if you have ever sat up late at night reading a something that is difficult to put down. The Oasis wins hands down in the light as a feather stakes.
Battery Life Comparison
Battery life is one the most important measures of how useful your eReader is. Having an eReader that constantly has to be plugged in to the charger is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. Both the Kindle Oasis and the Kindle Voyage use the same battery technology and have the same battery capacity.
The Oasis can be used for months whereas the Voyage can only be used for weeks. Now this can interpreted different ways. The manufacturer would like you to think that there is a yawning gulf of difference in performance between these 2 models. It’s not quite that game changing after all Amazon just want you to purchase the new model. There has been some controversy over the fact the the leather cover has additional battery capacity built into it. For more info check my review of Kindle Oasis & Leather Charging Cover
Take the hype away and you should realise that although it is hype there is still a significant difference. The Oasis has the advantage of having smarter software that looks after the user needs and yet manages to claw back every scrap of energy to be used when it’s needed.
There are also the modifications to the screen and changes in backlighting LEDs. Better use of the energy used to run Wi-Fi for connection to the internet. There is a combination of things that do definitely give the Oasis model the edge when it comes to battery usage.
Ultimately the amount of use can vary on both models quite a lot depending on your personal usage. Things like how brightly the screen is set and how much you use Wi-Fi will influence battery life. If both the Oasis and the Voyage are setup with the same settings used the same the same way then you will find that the Oasis will consistently achieve longer battery life.
The Differences Between These Ereaders Comes Down To
- Weight
- Battery life
- Screen quality
- Price
The Oasis has an advantage on all of these factors except price. Then there are more subjective measures like comfort that comes from the redesigning and moving the center of gravity in the Oasis.
- How well the screen can be read under different lighting conditions.
- How the differences in weight can affect the user depending on how they are being held
How well each eReader can be read by the user at the time and the level of comfort can be interpreted differently by different users. They are very much subjective opinions and as so really the only way to decide for yourself about the suitability of each model is to use one for a while.
You may think that means buying but it doesn’t have to require a purchase. You can find someone who has the model you are looking for and talk them in to letting you use theirs for a while. You can hire the model you would like to try for a short time and see how you feel about it. Whichever way you make your decision about the Kindle Oasis Vs Voyage Comparison the performance to price value will be personal.
